Welcome back, girls!
We are so blessed to be sharing Sally’s
thoughts on chapter three with you today.
I love these words from this chapter …
“God …
intended it (motherhood) to be a fully committed job, not something
we do on the side. For me that has meant choosing full-time, at-home
mothering as my top priority. Yes, I have continued to speak and to
write and to tackle a variety of projects to earn extra money during
lean years. But instead of pursuing a career with motherhood tucked
in around the edges, I have chosen to focus first on the mission of
motherhood. My reward for this decision has been both simple and
profound. I have been able to know the joys of mothering without a
divided heart.”
Reading Assignment: Finish or Re-read
Chapter Three of The Mission of Motherhood
To Read and Ponder:
Galatians 6:7 “Do not be deceived,
God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.”
What does this verse mean? How do we
sow in a meaningful way into our children’s lives, so that the seed
we plant will bear spiritual fruit?
Romans 12: 1-2 “Therefore I urge you,
brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and
holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of
worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by
the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God
is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
According to these verses, what does
God consider to be true worship? How do we keep from being conformed
to this world?
To Do:
Collect some special books, pictures,
or other mementoes that will remind you of your commitment to the
Lord. Place them where you can see them to be encouraged in your
ambition to be the mother God designed you to be.
To Discuss (in the comments!):

I think for me, it’s the sacrifice of making the choice that will lead them to the Lord, nurture their little hearts and not pursue my own desires. Like Sally said, I am constantly choosing to tuck my own desires and aspirations in around the edges. Not the other way around. It’s difficult and a choice I have to make and walk in every day. And I mess up all the time, but without any aim, I’d be tucking motherhood around the edges of my self-centered plans.
Oh yes. We definitely have to make the choice … one situation at a time! And aiming is step one.
That’s me too Jennie. I want to be taking a walk before I go to work but instead I have to work on a resume….haven’t had one in YEARS. I need a resume to tackle a new job that is more ministry related but MOSTLY that works better for my children’s lives. I thank the Lord for His teaching through the women here and His word about intentionality. What are the long term goals we have for our children and families. I am finding it to be a constant reevaluating process.
Thank you so much for your vlogs. I am praying about starting a Bible/Book study for mothers in my home and using Mission on Motherhood and your videos for the first book study. The most difficult sacrifice right now is denying self to serve my family. I really liked what you said elsewhere about how Jesus served the disciples in the upper room at a time when he was under great pressure. Thank you again. Your children and we as your audience are truly blessed!
Emily, that’s great! I hope you take the plunge into hosting a Bible study–it’s such a treat!
And isn’t Jesus’ service to the disciples remarkable especially at that point? I need that reminder. And to breathe and serve … breathe and serve.
I hope you’re able to get the study started!! As great as this study is, it would be so encouraging and fun to work through it "in person" with some friends.
That’s what I want to do also, but I live too far out of town and haven’t been able to get people interested. Maybe someday…
I love these vlogs!! This has been a wonderful way to read through the book.
Sally, thanks for the blessing at the end, I had to smile when you said sleep, as that seems to be our biggest issue right now.
Thank you!!
Julie
I just bought this book!! I would love to do the study! How? where? when? Oh Please!!

Hi, Monica!
Just read and comment! Here! Anytime!
What a great vlog!! So encouraging! I think my most difficult sacrifice right now is just realizing that being the wife, mother, & home teacher right now are my "hobbies". I can choose to pour myself into them and enjoy them – to be creative (as long as I don’t do TOO MUCH where it stresses me out) and use these avenues as ways to express myself creatively. Even just in simple things, like pretty "table scapes" for our suppers, hot drinks in pretty cups, simple flowers tucked into a book etc etc…of course, Sally is an inspiration in those things. I find the more I focus on motherhood, wifedom, home learning as my kingdom calling and my favorite thing to do, the more I can choose "excellence" in that area. Just renewing my mind to think about it in a positive light based on it being God’s work for His Kingdom and not filtering it through the world’s standards, as in their eyes, I am doing little of "value". I actually JUST finished going through The Ministry of Motherhood and I absolutely LOVE the stories of Jesus with His disciples and all that we can learn for mothering! It is so refreshing and exciting to be able to say in our hearts, "I am doing Kingdom work!" "Here I am Lord, send Me today to these children!"

I love your thoughts about making life beautiful and enjoying that as part of motherhood! Those little touches mean a lot to our children. Choose excellence! Yes!
Bless you, Amy.
Bless you also!!!!
Amy, have you ever read Edith Schaeffer’s "The Hidden Art of Homemaking"? Your description of making home life your "hobbies" reminds me a bit of that. If you haven’t read it already, you might really like it
I enjoy everyday things more when I take the few moments to add that an extra touch of beauty or something special (not that I always get those things done, by any means, but I always enjoy when I do!).
Yes, I have Kali!! It is SOO good!! Thanks for the reminder…maybe I’ll pull it out one these days!
Kali, I love that book! Was thinking about it recently, myself. Probably should take it out again for a re-read!
I think I’m about due for a re-read too! It’s been a few years. There aren’t many books like that that I ever actually get around to re-reading (too many other books still waiting to be read a first time!!), but that’s one of my favorites. Kind of like Sally’s books *G*
Listening to Sally’s video is like having a cup of tea with an encouraging Mom. Needed this today!
