On Being Resolved

It is that time of year when everyone starts with their New Year’s resolutions. They begin by assessing what’s worked this year, what hasn’t, and how their goals need to be adjusted or revisited. So, as we assess, let’s ask, “What does your motherhood community look like? How are you receiving encouragement, support, practical help, and guidance in your motherhood journey?”

Maybe you are already in the atmosphere of a strong network of like- minded moms who are supportive of you in your pursuit of the biblical design of motherhood.  Maybe you feel desperate for friendship and isolated and struggle with negative emotions as young children demand all your time and energy. Voice of the Sabbath

This is the first Sunday post here on the MomHeart blog and I’m thrilled to be spending these few moments with you.  Sunday is my favorite day of the week for many reasons, but primarily because it seems that more people turn their focus heavenward on Sundays and so all seems just a little more right than on other days of the week.  I understand that history confirms Saturday as the Sabbath but in our culture, we tend to set Sundays aside as our day of worship and rest.

One reason I look forward to Sundays is because in our house, it’s a day to slow down and be quieter than normal.  Of course there is the busyness of church preparation and attendance but then the pace settles and we just enjoy lunch together and usually a nap or quiet rest time gets added to the agenda.  The hours seem to tick by at a slower pace on Sunday evenings as we enjoy dinner out and talk about plans for the upcoming week.

Between work, school, sports, church, and community functions, life can be so hectic and loud.  Often it becomes hard to hear each other’s voices much less the still, small voice of God.  [Read more...]
